Default Ranger shots interupt auto attack?

Does a ranger shot take away from an auto attack that is about to happen? I notice that the animation for auto attack will stop and the skill shot animation will activate if I use it too close to an auto attack going off. Is it just a visual thing or is auto attack affected by when you use a skill? Say I use hunter shot in an obvious between two auto attack animations will it give me the two auto attacks with a hunter's shot in between? But if I use the same shot right when an auto attack goes off does it only give me the shot not auto attack + shot. Hope that is understandable early with little caffiene. And thanks in advance.

Using the skill cancels that auto-attack, same as with everything

Not tested, but I think the distinction is that you can interrupt auto-attacks *before* the arrow is fired (IE, before halfway through the animation)

bows, unlike other weapons, have the slowest attack rate. when i play my ranger i play with the camera almost fully zoomed in, and i generally use standard bow skills before/after a non-skill attack goes off. you don't fire many arrows, what's the point in wasting some?

That what I was thinking. If I payed attention and used the skill between my auto attacks I wouldn't waste any. Thanks for all the answers.

Yes, if you use any sort of bow attack skills (including interrupts) it will cancel the next auto-attack that is about to happen and restart the attack as your bow attack skill.

The only exception is that a certain amount of time into the autoattack animation, it reaches a certain point (very late in the animation) where it will be forced to finish the autoattack before the bow skill activates, so the bow skill will be slightly delayed.
